Welcome to

 Llwyn Celyn bach

The Campsite in Llanberis

The ideal campsite for walking Snowdon.

We welcome backpackers, walkers/hikers, climbers and mountain bikers. Generally suitable for any respectful outdoor type.

We also welcome D of E groups, and don't mind you hugging the radiator in the drying room! Or putting your wet boots on it. Our OS number is SH573595.

The campsite is situated on a working mountain farm.

Set 600 feet above sea level the site has panoramic views of Snowdon, surrounding mountains and Llyn Padarn.

The campsite has been improved  in the early 2000's, from what used to be just a toilet and a cold tap, into a more camper friendly site. We have added  toilets and showers, hot and cold wash facilities, a laundry/drying room, and a small kitchen area with fridge and freezer. There are also electric points for phone charging, blowing up air beds etc.

Hook up points are available for campervans, these must be pre booked though, and there is a seperate area for family tents with hookups.

The campsite being on farmland is a more traditional basic style campsite, its a 'find your own pitch' style, and there are no specific numbered pitches. There are several fields that are in use as camping fields, giving you the freedom to choose where you set up your tent. Also allowing  groups to have seperate areas to themselves.

We have available areas that can be booked for private parties, ranging from a small garden type area, to whole fields. Campfires are not allowed on the small areas, and only in the fire pits on the larger areas.

Our plans for this year 2010, are to finish  our disabled toilet and shower block. This will include more wash facilities, extra showers and toilets, and an elsan disposal point.

Also better recycling/rubbish facilities will be built, and people will be encouraged to participate more actively in our recycling policy. It always amazes us how much stuff people chuck away!

Llwyn Celyn Bach is just on the border of the Snowdonia National Park, (half in half out) yet it is at the foot of Snowdon, making it an ideal base camp for walking Snowdon and the surrounding mountains. Once here you will not need to drive to access walking routes, they will be right on your doorstep.

The campsite is actually in Llanberis itself, giving campers  freedom and choice of pubs and places to eat.   Being only half a mile down the road, it's just a  5 minute walk away from the main village centre,  ideally sited for exploring this ever popular town. Small word of warning though, it is quite a steep hill back up!

We are situated in one of the more rugged, yet beautiful areas of Wales. With miles of freedom at our doorstep, or rather gateway, you can choose to explore the mountains and moors or go for the plentiful tourist attractions, which are numerous and varied in theme throughout the area. More on these on the  'The Area' page.

It is part of a mountain farm which farms Welsh Mountain sheep and mixed breed beef cattle. We also now have pigs, mixed and rare breeds, they are free range and extremely good at getting rid of the bracken. The sheep graze on Moel Eilio, which can be walked straight from camp, you are welcome to explore all around the upper farmland, including the lake, and the surrounding area.

Moel Eilio is also the starting point for the roller coaster route to Snowdon, taking in breathtaking views on your way, and also passing through an ancient village, with hut circles and roman roads on route.

As it is part of a working farm we do ask you to be careful if bringing young children or dogs.

Please could all children small and not so small  be accompanied at all times. Do not allow children to climb on walls or throw stones.

Dogs are allowed, but they must be kept on a leash and under control at all times, please clean any poop's up and bag and bin it.

You can walk Snowdon straight from the campsite, without the need to find parking anywhere, which in itself can take for ages at busy times of the year. You can either pick up the Llanberis path or take a different route and join the Snowdon Ranger Path, details are available at reception.

For either route, follow the road up out of the campsite, at the top of the road turn left onto the track. Follow the track until you come to the concrete bridge, go through the gate, for the ranger keep on going, for the Llanberis route..

about 20 metres after going through the gate on the bridge, there is another gate on your left, go through this gate and walk towards the Snowdon train  station 'Hebron', You will need to cross over another concrete bridge. Then you can either keep on walking towards the station, cross over the track and cut across to join onto the llanberis path. Or after the second concrete bridge take the path to your left, this will lead you onto the Llanberis path at a lower point.

The Snowdon Ranger is an easy walk from us, not as popular as the Llanberis Route, so avoiding the crowds, the route you take from here is easy footpath all the way through the valley of 'Maesgwm' then at the gate(at the end of this valley, Bwlch Maesgwm) you can either go over Moel Cynghorion then join the Ranger route near the lake,or, drop down onto the ranger path, following the wall down.

A really good all day walk is to do the Roller coaster route which takes you up Moel Eilio, and over two smaller peaks called Foel Gron and Foel coch you can then either walk over or around Moel Cynghorion, to join onto the Ranger path, descending via the Llanberis tourist path. The views from the top of Eilio alone are well worth the walk.

A  good way of getting to see the area is by taking the Sherpa bus, which runs frequently throughout the summer, and getting off at one of the many stops, and walking back to camp via either a route  over or around Snowdon, more info on this on the to do page.

Extra large groups can also be catered for, 50+people, they need to book and pay a deposit in advance.

All groups of 10 or more should contact us before staying, or if you have three or more tents in a group, and would like to be pitched near each other. There is a limit on number of groups we  accept at one time so make sure you email or text first.

Wild camping pitches can also be provided.
